A fossil found in the Hollow. Zoom-in to appreciate the detail. It reminds me of bamboo. What do you think it might be?
We call this bedrock lined depression in our woods the HOLLOW. It’s magical-a great place to gather with friends to enjoy a fire in the cast iron kettle.
Home-made bird feeder, with anti- black squirrel defense. The base is an inverted lead rain scupper salvaged over 60 years ago from the demolition of a 19th century Cleveland Tudor home. The pole is 3” copper pipe.
BREEZE CATCHER A woodland curiosity-making use of a damaged tree
UPSIDE DOWN FUN Good friend Dale Johnson, from Sunbury, Ohio was going to discard four 99” shards of 2” thick limestone, unless I wanted them. I did, brought them the back to Chagrin Falls, and assembled them in an open area in my 4-acre wood lot.
This is the LADDER OF LIFE. At the bottom of the ladder is a string of nine shoes that I discovered in the myrtle nearby, intentionally discarded by a previous teenage resident of our home. There is only one shoe of a pair, beginning with a quite small adolescent flip-flop shoe an ending in a large teenager sneaker, with a variety in between-a young man marking his growth. When the ladder is reached the serious climb of life begins. What should be at the top? Wisdom, I think. Others might choose wealth, or status, or power. What do you think?
I’m obsessed with having a “clean “woods. This video represents about 50% of the tree debris that I have picked up in the last year. The first year I burned it, but I am now uncomfortable doing that. The “fence “ is about 4 ft. high, and has a very pleasant feel to it.
Carvings on a very large bedrock deep in my woods. The larger carving says “1896”, and the one above says “L 1918”. Should I add my own carving?
Home, sweet home, at last. “Wally “ is a 4 ft tall 2500# limestone sculpture carved by Columbus sculptor Dale Johnson.
Nearly there.
